Green Careers Network

What is the Green Careers Network?

It offers personal and professional development, networking opportunities and peer support in and around the New Forest area.

The Green Careers Network has supported over 110 members who work, volunteer or study in the environmental sector. Membership is free.

Once you sign up, you will be added to the newsletter mailing list, which shares regular updates on upcoming opportunities through the network, as well as links to other relevant local activities and job vacancies.

Who runs the Green Careers Network?

The New Forest National Park Authority’s education and youth team set up the Green Careers Network in 2023 and continues to coordinate it.

Over 15 organisations and companies have been represented among the members.

Sessions are often led by local experts and partner organisations, including Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, Fresh Air Training, and Freshwater Habitats Trust.

Most sessions are provided fully funded, with some of the formal training course being available at a subsidised cost.

What kind of opportunities are available?

Activities have included:

  • ‘netwalking’ – meeting others in environmental roles while on a guided walk in the New Forest National Park.
  • formal training in areas of outdoor first aid; behaviour change for conservation and amphibian and reptile identification skills.
  • citizen science opportunities – water testing streams and rivers with the Freshwater Habitats Trust.
  • volunteer tasks – clearing invasive plants.
  • sessions with experts on the importance of soil for climate change; recruitment; and traditional woodland management.
