Professor S. Mark Spearing is the Vice-President (Research and Enterprise) at the University of Southampton. He is responsible for the Research, Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange activities of the University. Previously he was the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and Head of the School of Engineering Sciences, having been appointed as the Professor of Engineering Materials in July 2004.
Prior to his appointment at Southampton, he was a Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from 1994-2004, receiving tenure in 2001 and being promoted to a Full Professorship in 2004. He is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Composite Materials. He has published over 200 technical publications, including more than 130 in archival journals.
Councillor Seán Woodward is the Executive Leader of Fareham Council and the Conservative Group Leader. He is also the Executive Spokesman for Policy and Resources; Member of the Whiteley Community Association General & Executive Committees and the Chairman of PfSH (Partnership for South Hampshire).
On Hampshire County Council Seán is the Chairman of the River Hamble Harbour Board. Seán is also the Chairman of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Local Government Association.
He is the Fareham Borough Councillor for Sarisbury Ward which includes Sarisbury, Burridge, Lower Swanwick, Swanwick and Whiteley, as well as the Hampshire County Councillor for Sarisbury Division which includes the Sarisbury and Park Gate Wards.
Alison Barnes is Chief Executive at New Forest National Park Authority and has worked in the field of landscape management for 25 years. She is the Convenor of the Green Halo Partnership and an elected Fellow of both the Landscape Institute and RSA.
Earlier in her career Alison, worked in Scottish local government and with RSPB on opencast mine restoration projects. She later led on local biodiversity policy within Defra and was Head of Advocacy for English Nature, developing policy across Parliament, Whitehall and Europe and supporting the passage of the NERC Act. She was a founding Director at Natural England, leading NE’s work in London and holding national portfolios for Landscape and Green Infrastructure, including advising on greening the London Olympics and chairing the Thames Gateway Partnership.
Alison has served on the Mayor of London’s Sustainability Commission and Forestry England’s Regional Advisory Committees and is currently on the Board of Directors for Business South, is a Trustee of the National Park City Foundation and a Leadership Fellow of St George’s House, Windsor Castle.
Simon Eden is a public policy consultant and a Director of the Southern Policy Centre, the think-tank for the central South.
Originally from London, Simon began his career as a research biologist before joining the civil service, where he worked on local government funding and policy. In 1999 he was appointed Assistant Chief Executive of Southampton City Council and became Director of Sustainability & Development in 2001.
In 2003 Simon was appointed Chief Executive of Winchester City Council. He led the Council for 13 years before leaving to become a policy wonk all over again.
Cllr Satvir Kaur is Leader of Southampton City Council. She was born and raised in Southampton, graduated from both the University of Southampton and Solent University. Her professional background is broad and ranges from managing a small family business to working in the B2B publishing sector with international experience. Satvir is passionate about social mobility, housing and culture.
Satvir has had several cabinet portfolios in her 13 years as a local councillor, where she has led on the city’s largest council home building programme, started community initiatives to tackle poverty and build resilience and was responsible for launching and leading Southampton’s bid to become City of Culture in 2025 in which the City were finalists. As Leader, she is working towards Southampton becoming a Real Living Wage City and Net Zero by 2035.
Annoushka Ottley is the Executive Director Business and Civic Partnerships (Designate) for the South Hampshire College Group.
Anoushka has proven experience leading improvements in the quality of education across a wide range of provisions. She has worked in the FE and skills sector for over 17 years in both work-based learning and further education settings, delivering high quality apprenticeships and study programmes. Anoushka also chairs the sustainability committee at the College.
Prior to joining Fareham College, Anoushka worked in the aerospace industry as a qualified aircraft engineer, focussing on the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gas turbine engines and military rotary wing aircraft. She is a passionate advocate for promoting and encouraging more women to pursue careers in the engineering sector, working closely with local schools and employers.
David Hutchinson leads the Innovation portfolio for the Faculty of Technology at the University of Portsmouth. He is currently Principal Investigator for a £3.5M Research England funded project, Clean Growth UK, and a recently completed Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund project - 'Energy Autonomous Community'.
David has worked in the higher education sector for over 20 years. He tends to work on large interdisciplinary funded projects that seek to find solutions to Environmental and Energy Systems challenges, that will more rapidly move us towards Net Zero.
Recent funding has come from NERC, Research England, UK Government, Innovate UK and industry.In his spare time, David loves to travel with his family, especially now they are qualified divers, and is Principal Oboe of the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra. He is passionate about clean growth and has experienced the good that can arise from business, universities and local government working together.
Chris Fry is co-founder of Accelar Limited, a strategy and sustainability consultancy that helps organisations accelerate the transition to a green, fair, and prosperous world.
With a major focus on helping organisations and teams harness green finance opportunities whether it’s for nature restoration, climate adaptation, building retrofit, zero-carbon transport or other infrastructure. Accelar has extensive experience in helping local and national governments, businesses, innovators and investors.
Paul Ciniglio is the Head of Whole Home Retrofit, at the National Energy Foundation (NEF) and spends much of his time working on the SuperHomes network having co-created the SuperHomes Rating Scheme. He joined NEF in 2020 as a part-time member of staff having previously supported them as a consultant.
With over 35 years of experience in the built environment, much of Paul's time has been spent working for housing associations and local authorities, becoming the Head of Asset Management & Sustainability. He graduated as a Building Surveyor, has a Masters in Sustainable Development, and is a Chartered Environmentalist.
He has led multiple award-winning sustainability projects and lives in his own SuperHome which he retrofitted in 2009, and again in 2022. Paul additionally has extensive experience of low and zero carbon new build housing, and is an Associate of the Good Homes Alliance.
